And I'm not saying that because I got a mention. Hear me yesterday. "I'm going to ban bluebonnets next year" Spoken as I set about removing the carcasses of the spent flowers. "Oh, no you're not" Says my husband. Not sure what he meant by that-he wants them or he doesn't believe I can do it. Underneath just as you said a wiry tangle of that weed I don't know the name of. I can relate to every single thing you wrote. You forgot to mention the Maltese thistle. I think that really deserves a special mention in more than one place. Well done. And yes, we are usually mosquito free but I removed all the fish from one water garden and the mosquitoes started breeding in there. We also had a green lacewing in the house. Your particular frame of reference is most enjoyable to me (such as your eloquently worded “the perfume of the forests”; the comparison of the stone; “grasses or trees.”). The answer is: both. When I lived in Austin my "grass" turned brown for five months of the year. It wasn't pretty and I never watered it. Now I live in east Texas where we receive more rain. My front yard is St. Augustine. I never water or fertilize it, yet it looks great and has for 2+ years. The small area where bahia grass grew had to be mowed almost every 3 days so I covered it with mulch and planted ornamentals as you suggest.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
